🎓MS Marriage and Family Therapy and Graduate Certificate in Sex Therapy, University of Wisconsin–Stout; Certified Yoga Teacher; Certified Rape Crisis Counselor & Medical Advocate, Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault
Hello and welcome!
I believe that the therapeutic relationship is the cornerstone of positive change in therapy. My practice is rooted in collaborative co-creation, where I work with individuals and couples who are eager to embark on a journey of growth, healing, and transformation. Together, we’ll shed patterns and coping strategies that no longer serve you and uncover fresh ways to nurture deeper connections with yourself and those around you. Within our sessions, you'll find a warm, calm, and nonjudgmental space to support your exploration.
I specialize in working with individuals and couples navigating challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, sex and intimacy, communication, and life transitions, along with offering sex therapy. My practice is inclusive and affirming of all gender identities, sexual and erotic orientations, and relationship structures.
My therapeutic approach integrates a systemic, nonpathologizing lens, exploring the intricate ways our lives are shaped by various systems—from our families of origin to factors like race and ethnicity, culture, gender, sexuality, and faith and spirituality. My trauma-informed approach integrates multiple therapeutic strategies, including strengths-based, solution-focused, Internal Family Systems, somatic embodiment, mindfulness, emotion-focused, and narrative techniques and therapies.
I hold a Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy and a Sex Therapy Graduate Certificate from the University of Wisconsin-Stout and am actively pursuing AASECT-Certified Sex Therapist certification under the supervision of Alex Iantaffi. Additionally, I'm a certified yoga teacher and have volunteered as a sexual assault crisis counselor and medical advocate. My background includes studies in creative writing and Spanish.
Outside of my practice, you'll find me enjoying walks around the Minneapolis lakes and salsa dancing. If you're interested in learning more or scheduling a free 20-minute consultation to see if we're a good fit, please reach out to me at rachelmickelson@edgeswellness.com.
